National Electrical Code Article 511 outlines the standards for safe electrical installations in commercial garages designed to either repair or store driving vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks, & tractors. NEC 511 states the classification of different locations for various vehicles, the wiring of permanent and portable equipment, the operation of electrical equipment around hazardous materials that can be found in autobody garages, and more. A specific Subsection of this article, NEC 511.12, details the ground fault protection requirements that must be followed.

NEC Article 511.12 states that electrical equipment in a commercial garage setting must comply with the ground fault protection standards outlined in NEC 210.8(B). According to NEC 210.8(B), all 125-volt and 250-volt receptacles supplied by single-phase branch circuits up to 50 Amps and all receptacles supplied by three phase branch circuits supplying up to 100 Amps need Class A (5 mA +/- 1 trip level) ground fault protection.

National Electrical Code Article 511 makes sure that all electrical installations in facilities housing motor vehicles are in safe and usable condition.
